Sometimes when a sibling is actively participating in alienation it can be difficult for family members to understand. Often even in our own families we will hear things like "I don't want to chose sides". Family gatherings can be a nightmare when having to deal with a sibling that is participating in alienation. If you feel that you must go to an event and know that your alienating brother or sister will be there take a friend with you and stay away from the sibling as much as possible.

Helpful Hint

It can be difficult when you have lost a sibling to alienation. Try to send birthday cards and thinking of you cards when you are kept apart by an alienator. Do make any good memories with them whenever you get the chance. This is important for the both of you. This type of support from you allows the minor sibling to stay connected to the targeted family and allows you to let let them know that you are their brother/sister no matter what the alienator may say to them.

Brothers & Sisters

Brothers and sisters can play a very important role in each others lives. Often time our relationships with a brother or sister is lifelong and outlasts other familial relationships.

When alienation enters the picture there are 3 major ways this relationship can be affected. The first being that a brother or sister may be forced to watch a loved sibling suffer as a target parent. The second is that sometimes brothers and sisters are alienated children together. The third being the hardest on most families is when brothers and sisters are alienated from one another.

The first 2 ways that relationships are effected by alienation while painfuls stills allows the siblings to support one another, but the third does not and can be very painful. Sometimes an alienated sibling will reject you when you attempt to reconnect with a targeted family member. Sometimes an alienator has control over minor siblings and refuses contact after you reconnect with targeted family members. There are times when siblings will side with an alienator against a brother or sister and actively participate in attacking him or her.

If you are watching a loved on being targeted by an alienator please do all that you can to help him or her stay positive and focused on what is really important. If you are alienated from a brother or sister know that you're not alone and educate yourself. It can be very painful to deal with the loss of a sibling to alienation.
